Serpents Trail Gulch
36"x24" Acrylic on cradled panel
Pinyon juniper dot the landscape. The big sagebrush scattered through the hillside felt more blue than green today: Serpents Trail, Colorado National Monument
Dry Creek
24"x36"x1.5" Acrylic on cradled panel
Gallery style, sides 1.5 inches deep with sides painted black.
On a brisk Fall morning our family went for a hike in Golden Gate Canyon State Park. On the way home we found a dry creek bed for our picnic spot. After lunch, we explored as far as the thistles and brambles would allow.
Three Horizons, Moab
18"x24" Acrylic on canvas
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
The skyline west of the Rockies is like nowhere else in this country. Pillars of red stone stand scattered through the land. The Rockies tower blue above them. My children groan as I get out of the car for yet another picture.
Monument Canyon
11x14 Oil on panel.
On the western slope of Colorado, the landscape begins to look a bit more like Moab. The hanging canyons of Colorado National Monument are stunning.
Ralston Reservoir
18"x24"x1.5" Acrylic on cradled panel
Gallery style, 1.5 inches deep with sides painted black.
As you hike the east trailhead of White Ranch along the Whipple Tree trail, you catch a glimpse of Ralston Reservoir over the Front Range. It's one of my favorite views along the Front Range.
Fallen Tree
16"X20" Acrylic on Canvas
Framed
I walk this trail every month of the year. If you're willing to trek a bit into the grasses, you're rewarded with a splendid view of creek finding its way into an opening in the trees: Ralston Creek Trail.
Spring Beach
11x14 Oil on panel
Living in Colorado, the beauty of the ocean is something I don’t experience very often. It’s a different type of sublime than the mountains. This is a plein air (on location) painting on the beach in Mexico.
Open Space in the Fall
11x14 Acrylic on panel
Walking the open spaces centers me. Nature helps put things in perspective. I'm so thankful for these pockets of calm in our community. Pearce Park
Chautauqua Trail
11x14 Acrylic on panel
I sometimes forget how beautiful Boulder can be. Today, I went hiking in Chautauqua park. I didn't get very far up the trail before deciding to paint. With all the rain this year, the colors were on full display.
Colorado Wildflowers
18"x24" Acrylic on Canvas
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
Years back, our local community garden planted a pollinator garden full of black-eyed Susans, Queen Anne's lace, and coneflowers. Eventually, the flowers spread past their confines, slowly making their way into the adjacent grasslands. I grin every time I walk by it--beauty invading the mundane.
Above the Falls
11x14 Acrylic on panel
Once you climb over the boulders down to the river, you're rewarded with this sight. The sound of the water refreshes my soul. This place is magical. Eldorado Canyon State Park: Boulder Creek
Quiet Pond
18"x24" Acrylic, paper mounted on canvas
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
Tucked back in the Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, the sun reflects red off the water onto the clay in the riverbank. The result is a lovely red that’s picked up here and there in the surrounding scene.
Lake Hattie
8"x10" Acrylic on canvas
Original painting framed with 1" dark gray frame.
My sister owns property in Wyoming. We often take walks through the fields, watching the light play across the surface of the water.
Mayhem Gulch
11"x14" Acrylic on cradled panel
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
Spring is in full swing in the canyon. The snow is gone from the mountainside. It stubbornly clings to the sides of the river in perpetual shade. The winter colors are giving over to the bright greens of new life.
Downtown Golden Clear Creek
11x14 Oil on panel.
The waters are high after all the rain. The sidewalks close to the river were all closed off. I painted this from the Washington Ave bridge.
Colorado Meadow
18x24 Acrylic on panel
Coming down the mountain, I approach a small meadow. In the distance, the land flattens out. With the angle of the sun, it looks as though the land miles away is a strange extension of the hillside to my left: either the northeast part of Park or the southwestern part of Jefferson county.
Oak Creek
24"x36" Acrylic on Canvas
Original painting framed with 2.5" dark gray frame.
While on a family vacation in Sedona, we escaped the heat of the day by swimming in the nearby river. My children played in the water while I sketched the reflections of the sun and the trees.
September Sun
11x14 Oil on cradled panel
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
I found this little spot near Jefferson, CO. September is my favorite month. It’s the last breath of summer and the first hint of chill in the air.
Clear Creek, Golden - small
11x14 Acrylic on canvas
One of the iconic views of Golden--looking West from the bridge on Washington. Even after years of painting it, this view doesn't get old.
Moab
16"x20" Acrylic on Canvas
Original in Matte black float frame
The skyline west of the Rockies is like nowhere else in this country. Pillars of red stone stand scattered through the land. The Rockies tower blue above them. My children groan as I get out of the car for yet another picture.
San Jose del Cabo
11x14 Acrylic on panel
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
Living in Colorado, the beauty of the ocean is something I don’t experience very often. It’s a different type of sublime than the mountains. This is a plein air (on location) painting on the beach in Mexico.
Canyon
36"x24" Acrylic on canvas.
Original painting framed with 4" dark gray frame.
This view is from the floor of a canyon looking up at the sky--hinting at the green trees on the hillside above. The strong sunlight catches several ledges on the way down before pooling on the canyon floor. A small waterfall glimmers in the background.
Surrounded by Color
24x18 Acrylic on Canvas
One of the iconic views of Golden--looking West from the bridge on Washington. This view doesn't get old.
Tarryall Creek
11x14 Oil on panel
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
The mountain creek widens for a moment just west of the Tarryall Reservoir. This particular afternoon, the brilliant blue of the sky was matched color for color in the reflections on the water—only broken be a few stones in the distance.
Michigan Creek
24x18 Acrylic on canvas
Go past Kenosha Pass and turn left at Jefferson. As you follow Tarryall Rd the creeks meander next to you--splitting and joining. I walked along the roadside to stretch my legs. I could have stood there all day.
Crossing the Stream
24"x18"x1.5" Acrylic on cradled panel
Gallery style, sides 1.5 inches deep with sides painted black.
Hiking the Belcher Hill trail in White Ranch Park, Golden CO. For about 1/2 mile you hike next to the stream but never quite get a good look at it. Then, after a quick turn, you descend to the stream banks into the cool shade of the trees. It's a small bit of oasis from the full sun on the trail.
Early Color - Vertical
24x18 Acrylic on cradled panel
Small clumps of aspen get a head start on their Fall colors. Davis Ponds Loop, Staunton State Park.
Morning Vigil
14x11 Acrylic on panel
Cradling my morning coffee in my hands, I sit by the mountain stream watching the sun slowly paint the rock face orange and red. Hay creek, near the Twin Eagles trailhead.
Dry Gulch
14x11 Acrylic on cradled panel, framed.
This gulch is a small walk from the Eastern entrance. Pinyon juniper and sage brush seem to grow from the rocks themselves: Colorado National Monument
Ute Creek
Acrylic on cradled panel, framed
I spent the morning walking the banks of this small tributary to the Tarryall Creek. I believe the Lost Creek Wilderness starts just past the rock formation in the background.
Spring Snow
14"x11" Acrylic on canvas
Original painting framed with 3" dark gray frame.
A Spring storm dropped piles of heavy snow along the Front Range. We went outside in the middle of the storm to shake off the trees in the hopes of saving them. I could barely make out the spring colors through the gusts of snow. It was beautiful.
